A QUICK OVERVIEW OF THE PICK-A-WISH SOCIAL NETWORK
First, you must be a registered user to use many of the features of the Pick-a-Wish web site. The simplest way to Register is to use the blue Facebook button on the login screen. This will automatically bring your Facebook email and profile picture into the Pick-a-Wish system. Once registered and logged in you will be directed to your Profile page, where you should Edit Profile to fill in any further information you wish, i.e., change your profile or background image, upload media, etc. Please note that your city/town/zipcode are required to Make-a-Wish, as this location is used by Grantors to search for Wishes within a radius they specify.
Under the Community tab on the top menu you will find links to an Activity Stream, a list of Members that can be sorted alphabetically, by last active, or by newest members, a link to this Forum, and a link to your Profile. You can always access your Profile and social interaction features via the link at the upper right of the site, or by using the three-line-stack icon on either side of the header above that will toggle a fly-out panel with a site navigation menu.
From your Profile you can send messages to other users, chat, add friends, create Groups, and see all your Activity on the Pick-a-Wish web site. You can make a friend request from the Members list. Next time the recipient logs in they will be notified and can accept the friend request, just like on Facebook.
To send a Message to another user(s) simply click the Messages link on your profile, click the Plus sign upper right of the message box, start typing the recipients’ name and drop-down auto-fill options will be shown. Choose the user you want to message, type your message and send. Alternatively, on each member’s profile you will find a “gear” icon which allows you send a public message, send a private message, or add/delete friendships. If they are online they will immediately receive a notification and you can start conversing. If they are not online they will be notified via email of the message with a link to the conversation thread.
As we are in the early stages of site and community development, the Community system will continually be evolving according to the needs of simplicity, efficiency, and community requests. We invite feedback about bugs and features and these may be reported and requested here in the appropriate Forums.
